My First Review!

My first review ever—and it’s in the Globe & Mail!
And it’s really good!

Here’s a bit from it:

“Lapeña’s touch is sure, her labours invisible. Even walk-on parts ring clear and authentic. A twitchy tow-truck driver shares a joint with John beside the mangled Toyota – a greaseball therapist to John’s post-crash haze of guilt. The wrecking-yard limbo they briefly share underscores the shift from coddled boy’s world to the perils of adulthood.”

And another bit:

“Lapeña stretches belief with great charm. Her cameo clips of Voltaire and Nietzsche are a mind-tweaking delight. Her style is a gently exaggerated verisimilitude, her form spooky farce, all held aloft by sensitive portraits of four very different human animals.”

And I especially like this last bit:

“This is a book to make you see the gifts amid the chaos. Consider, like Harold, that you still have your buttocks, and be thankful.”

I’m thankful for my buttocks, and for this review.
